Around Helston Self Catering Cottages & Farmhouses The bustling market town of Helston lies midway between Falmouth and Penzance at the head of the Lizard Peninsula. Perhaps Helston's greatest claim to fame is the internationally famous festival of the 'Flora Dance' held annually on May 8th. Thousands of visitors throng the streets all day and there's a carnival atmosphere from dawn to well into the night. As you explore the town you'll see a mixture of Georgian and Victorian architecture. A charming feature of the town are it's Kennels, these are streams running down either side of some streets which in earlier times kept the gutters clean but today only add to the charm of Helston. The streets are lined with many interesting shops including a Cornish Book Shop specializing in all things Cornish including the Cornish Language.
